HOW IT WORKS

I don't just put children into a group. I get to know them first.

Carrie Perrett supporting two primary school children during a personalised tutoring session in Ampthill.

Every enquiry begins with a friendly conversation so I can understand your child's strengths, the areas they're finding difficult and whether my sessions are the right fit.

THE JOURNEY

From your first message to your child's first session

  • 1

    You complete the enquiry form

Share your child's year group, current confidence and what has prompted you to look for support. You don't need to have everything figured out — even a few sentences helps me understand where your child is. I'll read everything you share carefully and personally.

    Takes about 5 minutes

    You share what is happening

You can include teacher feedback, areas of concern, school reports or anything your child is finding difficult. The more you share, the better I can understand what your child needs — and whether I'm the right fit. There's no right or wrong thing to say here.

You can also just ask a question first if you're not ready to enquire

I meet your child in an initial discovery session

Before I recommend anything, I spend an hour with your child working through a range of activities designed to help me understand where they are — their strengths, any gaps, and how they feel about learning. It's also a chance for me to hear your concerns directly and for your child to meet me in a low-pressure setting. Afterwards, I write up a full assessment report and email it to you, so you have something clear and honest to take away — whatever happens next.

Includes a written report emailed to you after the session

I recommend the right group or next step

If Ampthill Bright Start is suitable, I'll recommend the most appropriate group based on level, confidence and group suitability. I'd rather wait for the right group than place your child somewhere that isn't quite right.

    Maximum 4 children per group

Your child begins — calmly and consistently

Your child joins a small, settled group and we start building understanding and confidence, week by week. Sessions are calm, structured and purposeful — the same routine, the same faces, the same quiet expectations every time. You'll hear from me regularly along the way.

The first conversation matters

THE FIRST CONVERSATION

The initial stage helps me make sure the support is right for your child — by understanding where they are now, what they're finding difficult, and what kind of learning environment will help them feel comfortable. The aim is always the right fit — not just a filled space.

I’M TRYING TO UNDERSTAND

  • Your child's current confidence with maths or English

  • What gaps or difficulties they're experiencing

  • What has prompted you to look for support now

  • What you're hoping tutoring will help with

  • Any SEND or access needs to be aware of

  • Whether a small group feels right for your child

LET’S TALK

You don't need to have it all figured out before you get in touch

Many parents only know that homework has become stressful, school has raised a concern, or their child has started saying they're 'bad at' a subject. That is enough to begin.

The enquiry stage helps identify whether tutoring may be the right next step — and whether I'm the right person to provide it.
